World's First Hand-Held Speech Productivity System For PalmPilot, Microsoft® Outlook®, Lotus® Notes, GoldMine® and Symantec®ACT! Begins Shipping From Dragon Systems®
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer Enables Users to Quickly and Easily Create Emails, Calendar Appointments, and PIM Entries Using Hand-held Digital Recorder
New York, NY - June 23, 1999 - Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer, a system that enables people to use natural language and natural speech to create emails and PIM entries for popular applications started shipping today from Dragon Systems, Inc. of Newton, Mass. at the DemoMobile '99 Conference. This advance in natural language and interconnectivity goes beyond previous efforts in speech recognition software products. This solution not only recognizes spoken words, but also analyzes what was said and takes the desired action using popular software applications. Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer enables busy professionals to speak into the hand-held mobile recorder to get work done at anytime, virtually anywhere.
Users simply speak naturally into the hand-held recorder as soon as their thoughts come to mind. There is no need to jot information down onto a piece of paper or to boot up a computer. The user simply says in a natural manner what they want their computer software to do. For example, he or she may say "send an email" or "schedule an appointment." The recorder stores the information until the user's computer is available. Then, the user connects the recorder to the PC and the system transcribes and analyzes what was said. It organizes the dictation into action categories. The user can review and approve the information, if he or she desires. Then, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer instructs the application to take the appropriate actions.
"Some companies may tout natural language capabilities, however, Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer makes natural language truly useful. It enables a user to speak what is on his mind and the computer can take action. It is as if you had a portable personal assistant," said Roger Matus, Vice President of North American Marketing for Dragon Systems. Users can generate a variety of action items using the same natural language that one might use with a human assistant. Some examples include:
"Send email to John about new products. The boxes are in!," An email message is created. The system automatically finds John's email address from the user's existing address book. It then creates an email with the subject "new products" and the text "The boxes are in!"
"Create an email to Steven Smith and Bob Jones regarding our meeting. Steve, we are looking forward to meeting with you next Friday at your corporate headquarters. New paragraph. Lee." The email is composed and sent to the proper email addresses, automatically, after a quick review and approval.
"Schedule a meeting with Jane for next Thursday at 3 p.m. about product briefing" and the appointment is automatically entered into the calendar. A meeting invitation can also be automatically sent via email.
"Remember to take the car in for an oil change" and the action item automatically appears on the task list.
"I just called Joe Bloggs. We discussed a new resource allocation opportunity." A note/history is created in the supported application with the dictated text.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking Mobile Organizer includes the award-winning Dragon NaturallySpeaking Preferred speech recognition software, an ergonomically designed Dragon NaturallyMobile handheld digital recorder, and powerful natural language capabilities. It supports Microsoft Outlook 98, PalmPilot Desktop, Lotus Notes, GoldMine, and Symantec ACT! 4.0.
