New Technology That Makes It Easy To Search and Retrieve Multimedia Web Content Demonstrated By Dragon Systems®

Dragon AudioMining™ Technology Uses Award-Winning Speech Recognition Engine to Quickly Index Spoken Information Contained in Recorded Audio and Video Footage

Palm Desert, CA - December 7, 1999

Tens of thousands of hours of audio and video streaming media can be made available for web searches and retrieval using Dragon Systems' AudioMining speech technology, which will be shown at the GIGA Showcase for Innovative IT Solutions in Palm Desert this week. Dragon Systems of Newton, Mass. will unveil audio and video-access to streaming media content over the web with Dragon AudioMining on Wednesday, December 8 during the GIGA TechnoVista on-stage presentations.

With Dragon Systems' revolutionary and innovative AudioMining speech technology, hours of recorded and processed video and audio content can be quickly found and searched, with relevant material streamed directly to a user's desktop.

The Dragon Systems AudioMining technology converts audio data into searchable text, which is easily accessible by keyword searching. This new capability, which eliminates the need to listen to lengthy recordings to find necessary information, can save time and increase productivity. It gives users immediate random access to recorded materials and enables them to access material using its speech content. Dragon Systems' AudioMining technology is built upon the same underlying speech technology used in Dragon NaturallySpeaking®, the widely-acclaimed speech product that has garnered more than 120 industry awards worldwide in less than two years, and is the best selling speech retail product in the USA, according to PC Data (October 1999).

The system employs this underlying technology to internally generate text lists that are indexed back to their location on the recorded media, as accurately as possible with untrained speech files, which are then searchable. Dragon AudioMining can be used with content produced for the Internet, and content management of archives for Intranet and distance learning applications. In addition, corporate call centers using Oracle 8i database programs will be able to utilize a version of Dragon AudioMining for search and retreival of call data collected in their contact centers, and generate business intelligence reports mined from their databases.

Dragon AudioMining can help employees in large corporations access information they need. For example, a field representative can locate specific sections of a corporate meeting that is relevant to their region or product line- over the company intranet- without having to sift through the length of the meeting. Providers of distance learning will find Dragon's AudioMining technology a productive application; students will be able to review lectures and easily find and playback specific sections from the lecture that they may need to refer to for research or learning purposes later. And individuals browsing the web will be able to search for video as easily as they can now search for text.
