IMPORT PATIENTS

BACK | APPT. SETUP | FINANCIAL | TAX | FEE ADJ. | OFFICE

Import a patient list from a data file. This function will serve as a buffer zone, to allow you to view potential data before entering it in the main database. Not only is this more convenient (it displays and allows you to choose exactly which records from the file to import) but it is safer, too. By viewing the data, one can ensure that the data is not corrupt before entering it into the main database (see screenshot below).

Scrn: Import Patient Records

To specify a file type to import from, use the Format options. These are the formats supported:

DIF- [No idea]
dBase- This will export into a dBase database file.
SYLK- This format is a popular form of data exchange in database applications.
Tab- This will export the information into a tab-delimited list. Each field will be separated by a tab character and each record by a return character. Every field has its information enclosed in double quotation marks (). Click here for an example of output.
Comma- This will export the database as a comma-delimited list. Each field will be separated by a comma (,) with no spaces before or after and each record by a return character. Every field has its information enclosed in double quotation marks (). Click here for an example of output.
Mirror- Use this option to export the patient list in native MIRROR Information Services format. This is useful for importing the list into another MIRROR Information Services database.

To open a file, click on the Import Records button on the top. Choose a file to be displayed from the resulting file dialog. Its contents will appear under the Imported patient records in the middle. If the file appears to have imported correctly, you can click on the Update Records button at the bottom of the window to import these records into the permanent patient database.
