Hardware Installation
for Vinyl Doors
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU
PROCEED WITH HARDWARE INSTALLATION, MAKE SURE THAT THE INSIDE OF
LATCH WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH THE MAIN DOOR HARDWARE..
1. Installing the
lockset
(Refer to diagrams
included in the hardware package.)
With the door closed,
locate the strike plate on the jamb in the desired location, about
3/8" from the screen door. Install the strike screws into the upper
and lower slots on the strike. If required, use the shims supplied
to adjust the strike out from the jamb. The strike can be adjusted
slightly after the lockset is installed. With the door closed, hold
the inside latch assembly against the door so the latch bolt engages
the strike by about 1/4". Mark the location of the top hole of the
latch assembly with a sharp pencil. Place the deadbolt pack on the
door. Align the top hole with the mark, then mark the two lower
holes. Carefully drill the three holes through the face of the door
with a 5/16" bit.
To assemble the lockset,
rotate the outside lever handle until it is aligned as shown on
the installation sheet. Align the spring pack with the arrow on
the back of the outside lever handle assembly. Insert the square
spindle into the square hole in the back of the spring pack. From
the outside of the door, guide the outside lever assembly, with
the spindle, through the installation holes. Guide the deadbolt
pack and inside latch over the spindle. Insert the two short machine
screws through the inside latch assembly over the square spindle
in the deadbolt pack. Insert the two short machine screws through
the inside latch assembly and draw together. Do not tighten at this
time. Install the self-tapping screw into the bottom hole of the
deadbolt pack, then tighten all three screws.
2. Installing the
Pneumatic Closer
(Refer to diagrams
included in hardware package.)
The pneumatic closer
must be positioned in the middle of the mid-rail of the door. Measure
carefully to locate center of the rail. Make sure the door closes
and latches freely before installing the closer. Position the jamb
bracket on the doorjamb by lining it up with the middle rail (see
Figure A) and set it 1/4" from edge of the door. Drill 1/8" pilot
holes, then secure the jamb bracket. Slide the hold-open washer
about 1/4" onto the closer rod and attach the rod to the jamb bracket
with the pin. (Figure B). Attach the door bracket to the closer
with the remaining pin (Figure C). With the door closed, position
the bracket on the mid-rail and mark the holes. Remove the door
bracket from the closer and drill 1/8" pilot holes through your
marks into the internal steel reinforcement. Fasten the bracket
onto mid-door rail. Reattach the closer to the bracket with the
pin. (Figure E).
3. Installing the
Sweep
Slide the door sweep
over the bottom edge of the door with the slotted holes toward the
inside of the door. Align the sweep with the latch side of the door.
Position the sweep so that the rubber fins touch the door sill evenly
along the bottom of the door. Mark and drill 1/16" pilot holes through
the three sweep mounting holes. Be careful not to drill through
the front of the door. Secure the sweep using the three #8 x l/2"
white screws provided.
Check the operation
of the hardware and the fit of the sweep by opening and closing
the door a few times. The sweep should seal across the full width
of the door without crushing.
4. Installing the edge Finishing Strip
A white vinyl strip is provided to finish the outer edge of your
new door. Slide the strip down the groove on the outer edge of the
door. Cut the strip to length with hacksaw. Drill a 1/16" hole down
1 1/4" from the top of the door, and fasten the strip with a #8
x 1/2" white screw.
