DISPATCH

How Do I...?

"Dispatch" will open a menu entitled, "Communication". This menu contains functions which control the various aspects of the connection to the local area network.

Interval

This controls the frequency at which the system will check the network connection for new messages. The number entered will indicate that the program will check the local area network after every number of seconds for any new information. This is the setting window. Click Edit to modify the value, then hit Confirm to set the interval.

As this process will momentarily occupy the system, it is recommended that the interval be set to a tolerable value. Setting the interval to too small a value will produce "hangs" every few seconds, which can be distracting for the user. Otherwise, if the value is too high, the promptness inherent with electronic messaging will be sacrificed. A recommended value is sixty seconds.

Resources

This menu item will manage the communication settings for the network, determining which elements are active. This is the window.

Scrn: Resources

Under "Resources", indicate the availability of the various resources by checking the corresponding option box. For example, checking "FTP" indicates that the program is to use FTP access to retrieve data over a network connection.

The bottom three option control other portions of the communications package. "Communication Control Window" will []. "Error Alert" produces an alert []. "Backoff" will [].
