Raiding The Vaults - Eastman House

George Eastman House Each year the Toronto Film Society organizes a trip to invade Rochester, New York to raid the film vaults of the George Eastman House. For two days, members are treated to vintage films from the outstanding Eastman House collection, along with a number of films recently restored by Eastman House. It's a rare chance to view many films not seen publicly in over half a century.

The George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film has within its walls one of the world's oldest film archives. Recognized as a leader in film preservation and photograph conservation the Eastman House has educated many of the top film conservationists throughout the world. The museums impressive archives include more than 25,000 film titles produced between 1894 and today.

The films screened have included the likes of Carole Lombard, Wallace Reid, Dorothy Gish, Sessue Hayakawa, Colleen Moore, Rudolph Valentino, Marion Davies, Charles Farrell, Janet Gaynor, Edward Arnold and Marlene Dietrich. Directors included Frank Borzage, Jacques Tourneur, James Whale, King Vidor and Michael Powell. It's always a great success and we look forward to many more years at this great event.
