Lobster claw (heliconia wagneriana)

Catalog # 57 - A unique tropical variety that usually grows in the dense jungle making it a great species for indoor minimum light conditions. Also called the Holy spirit plant, the large red bracts are offset by several huge oar shaped foliage. The small pink flowers with yellow stamens grow out of the red lobster looking bracts often mistaken for the flower itself. The seed is actually 4 separate seeds. After soaking they will seperate to reveal the suckershaped hole from which the rhizome will emerge. Plant close to the surface when germinating under glass, and keep in mind the temperature of the soil should be warm. (see germination section).As the species matures, cuttings can be obtained from the shoot like rhizomes.
