The bubble cell is the closest model for the three-dimensional chambered structure that can accomodate the constraints for the breathing chambers of the developing lungs, first, the tree-branching organic irregular growth patterns, and second, the necessity for the maximum surface contact between body and air, that is, the closest packing of chambered structures within the volume of the human chest.
