Here is my published review of this late '96 release. The label is not in business anymore so if you see it definitely pick it up.

In the 70's 'fusion' meant mixing rock with jazz but now the new fusionism is the hybrids created by post-techno producers into jungle, trip hop and dub. Bernd Friedmann is a German fusionist who as Drome and Nonplace Urban Field has been contemporary with the early 90's innovations of The Orb and the Ninja Tune posse, particularly with his Final Corporate Colonization Of The Unconscious release which was one of the first to incorporate hip hop brakes in chill-out tracks.

Now his intelligent-techno brand of drum & bass rivals the digi-jungle of Luke Vibert/Plug and Atom Heart's Silver Sound incarnation. On Golden Star, tracks like "Plane Spotting" and "Plusminus 30" echo the Jaco Pastorius fixation of Squarepusher, while his minimalist techno cuts such as "Platikthai" and "Whimp (remix)" glisten with tiny details.

And to prove that while one person's style is an opinion, between two or more it's a scene, Bernd is joined by an impressive line-up of remixers including Scanner, Muslimgauze, Solid Doctor (aka one of the trip hoppers from Fila Brazilia) and arch minimalists Porter Ricks (featuring ambient-industrialist Thomas Koner).

This aptly titled disc is certainly filled with 'golden' moments and plenty of underground 'stars' so forget the holy grail and look for this.
