Both formats of this new single from Riz Maslen's great Mr Brubaker's Strawberry Alarm Clock CD features four remixes of the Meat Beat Manifesto-style hip-hop track with '60s Hammond organ and drill-ish moments. The wild track is both ultra hard and ultra freaky as horror movie strings race around the big funky beats. The Deep Fried Clams' mix is definitely over cooked, as these Americans trip out with silly sound bytes over fast funky drumming. Red Math's "Dark Extraction" is closer to the original, marked by a couple of exhausted shout outs from James Brown, and jazz tangents on the Hammond. Canadian remixer Starbean (aka Jon Ascensio from Montreal's Pest 5000) takes a journey through spacey exotica, accompanied by crickety drum machines and tribal snares, while the Bin Dogs create a similar free float among vibes, twangs and voices. Also included is a stripped down slow groove "pre"-mix of Mr Brubaker's track "Vacetious Blooms" that sounds like a younger, hipper Holger Czukay practising some dub-hop science. More please.
