This classy collaboration between Japan's top hip-hop DJ and jazz trumpeter is now getting a North American release. Without the presence of the rappers who often obscure his subtle moves, Krush lays down some prime mellow grooves on "Mu-Getsu" and "Mu-Chu" for Kondo's Miles-ish melody lines to work over. Krush also touches on dub in their dreamy cover of Bob Marley's "Sun Is Shining" and the Material-sampling "Ko-Ku," which features Jon Hassell-ish multi-tracking of the horn. Krush's darker side shadows the backing atmospheres, and the rough acoustic bass and snare rhythms of "Ha-Doh," where the trumpeter blows additional snakey Hassell-style harmonies. Since these sessions, Kondo has been working with EOE's Eraldo Bernocchi, and the pair have a disc featuring Bill Laswell due soon from InnerRhythmic.
