Safer Sex Lube
is the brainchild of a safer sexual practice educator and entrepreneur. The product came about after I became interested in developing a personal lubricant for use with condoms, and for couples that have problems with excessive friction during intercourse. The product had to be extremely safe with condom use, non-irritating, be absorbed by the skin without leaving a sticky residue , mimic the body's own natural lubrication terms and viscosity, be edible , and use no animal byproducts in its creation.

The first ingredient is distilled water, with a neutral pH. of 7.0. This is the purest form of water available, because you deserve the very best. This is the initial
building block of Safer Sex Lube. The body is 70% water by mass, so we thought this would be a good place to start. Water is used in this product because of its polar properties, which do not cause the the break down of latex. This
makes it safe for condom use, compared to products which contain petroleum distillates such as Vaseline or Baby Oils.
Glycerin is added to raise the viscosity of the lubricant, and add to the surfactant
(slippery) properties. It is completely soluble in water, non reactive with any other ingredients, naturally sweet (used in food products as a sweetener), and does not affect latex. Propylene glycol is used to further the slippery
qualities while remaining completely safe. It is naturally broken down into biologically necessary substances upon ingestion, does not affect the pH. of the lubricant, and is safe to use with condoms.
Hydroxy
ethyl cellulose is a gelatin like substance which is added to give the lubricant more body and tack. It is widely used in ointments and creams and resembles a natural collagen, although no animals were used to produce it. It is
latex friendly and is safely ingested. Small amounts of Phenoxyethanol, as well as methyl, propyl, amyl, and butyl parahydoxybennzoates have been added to control microbial growth. Their common use is as a preservative in foods.
Perhaps the most important ingredient in this revolutionary product is the Glycerate Poly hydrate. It is remarkably stable and releases its water with great difficulty. It is able to withstand prolonged exposure to
air without loosing its lubricating ability. Exposure of pre- lubricated enema tips, catheters and tubing for a period of up to two years have shown the lubricant to be wholly usable after that time. It adheres well to rubbers and
plastic and can be removed completely and easily by means of a damp clothes or wet sponge. This ingredient is the only constituent with a pH. It typically has a pH. of 5.3 and lends its pH. to the entire product. It has been
employed as a lubricant on pre- lubricated enema tips and rectal thermometers since 1974 , and no adverse reaction have been reported.
