All our courses are held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 333 Kingston Road (Kingston Road and Woodbine Avenue), and there is ample parking on the east side of the building. The classroom is situated upstairs in the main room. During four sessions, participants are introduced to the basic concepts of safe boating including aids to navigation, safety equipment, power boats, sail boats, weather and seamanship. Registration: Monday September 24 at 7 pm. Course: Monday October 1 through Monday October 23 at 7 pm Cost: $45 includes manual and exam fee Fundamentals of Weather Allows the boater to anticipate adverse weather and forecasts by gathering pertinent information and interpreting weather patterns. Topics include air masses, fronts, clouds, and precipitation. Registration: Tuesday October 9 at 7 pm Course: Tuesday October 16 through Tuesday December 4, at 7 pm Cost: $95, $75 for CPS members Boating Includes the basic topics of safe boating presented in Boat Pro but expands to include basic navigation, charts, piloting, and plotting. Registration: Monday January 14, 2002 Course: Monday January 21 through Monday April 29 Cost: $135, $200 for a couple sharing course materials Navigating with GPS Covers the fundamentals of operating a GPS receiver, navigating with GPS, sources of error, selecting units and importance of chart datum. A demonstration of how to interface a GPS with a PC is included. Registration: Tuesday February 12, 2002 Course: Tuesday February 19 through Tuesday March 5 Cost: $35, $30 for CPS members Extended Cruising Formerly Offshore Sailing, this course focuses on the challengs of blue-water sailing to maximize the enjoyment, and minimize the risks, for those on board. Registration: Thursday January 31, 2002 Course: Thursday January 31 through Thursday March 30 Cost: $120 (membership in CPS is not a prerequisite) VHF Prepares participants for the Maritime Radiotelephone Operator's Restricted Certificate.
