It involves wax casting and painting and is/was used particularly to reproduce skin diseases for study (by medical students). Is it still in use or has it been supplanted by new technology. eg. the web. I saw an excellent book about it at the U of T bookstore, medical section. It was outrageously expensive, even more expensive than an art book.
