THE STORY SO FAR

1988 -----------
– Captain Eddie B Kirk writes a few songs for his friend Cybernoid. They ask Android whether he can sing or not. He says "yes" (nobody's quite sure yet...) and then writes some lyrics.

– First performance ever at Cybernoid's birthday party. Aboard his space shuttle. The name of the band - Mr Spock. On stage you can see Android and Cybernoid.

– The year goes on with some more party gigs and later on even some real shows.

1989 -----------
– The band asks Paramount Pictures about using the name Mr Spock. Paramount gets upset and responds "That'll be expensive, guys". The band changes the name to Star Pilot On Channel K in short S.P.O.C.K!

– Nothing much happens, S.P.O.C.K is still a lazy amateur band. However, a few more gigs. Android is unsure about the future of the band and thinks about his appearance in the band Sofia Antenna.

1990 -----------
– First record deal! A Swedish label Accelerating Blue Fish agrees to release the now mega rare 7" "Silicon Dream" in 510 copies.

– The band gets some more gigs around planet Sweden and becomes a cult band among Swedish fans of electronic music

1991 -----------
– Energy Rekords releases "I Sometimes Wish I was Famous - A Swedish Tribute To Depeche Mode" and S.P.O.C.K is asked to participate.

– Another tour of Sweden, this time supporting legendary Canadian electro band Psyche.

1992 -----------
– S.P.O.C.K is signed by Energy Rekords after a wild gig in Gothenburg. The result is the CD single "Never Trust A Klingon.

– The band heads off for a tour in Germany supporting Cat Rapes Dog (SE). The audience doesn't understand anything but seems to have a good time anyway. Later on it turns out that "Never Trust A Klingon" is one of the biggest electronic underground hits for years in Germany!

1993 -----------
– S.P.O.C.K gathers in the kitchen aboard their starship to record their first long-play album "Five Year Mission", a compilation of songs from their first five years in the Universe.

– Songwriter Cpt. Eddie B Kirk joins his two friends on stage and thereby becomes a complete member of the band. S.P.O.C.K performs at some big German festivals and then, during the fall, makes a big tour. The band is now considered one of the best and funniest live acts within the genre.

– Nothing to do so why not release the CD single "Strange Dimensions".

– In December S.P.O.C.K performs at Virtual X-Mas festival in Lund, Sweden together with Die Krupps, And One and Armageddon Dildos in front of a wild crowd of more than 1500 people. The concert is being recorded which results in the release of a live video.

1994 -----------
– The years starts with a tradegy, Cybernoid is being blown up in heavy space battle and is replaced by Hemoroid, later on known as Polaroid, Asteroid and finally Plasteroid.

– The band participates on the Virtual Energy tour '94 in Germany with three other Energy bands. This is followed by Virtual Summer tour in Sweden together with Electric Music. However, the summer isn't over and S.P.O.C.K does 4 open air festivals in Sweden, e.g. Hultsfredsfestivalen (The biggest one north of Roskilde).

– "Never Trust A Klingon" is re-recorded and re-released in connection with S.P.O.C.K taking part on the Sony compilation Raumschiff Enterprise.

– A rumour in Swedish media saying that NASA is about to sponsor the band doing the first live gig ever in outer space!

– First sign of a new album - the single "Astrogirl" in two editions. One contains a song from S.P.O.C.K's M/TV Unplugged Session!

1995 -----------
– Records the first real music video for "Astrogirl". The so-called "professionals" say it's crap - nobody understands S.P.O.C.K's sense of humour... Manages to appear on MTV News and two national Swedish TV-shows.

– "Astrogirl" is voted "Best Single 1994" in a reader's poll in a Swedish music magazine (and "Never Trust a Klingon 2294AD" becomes #4)!.

– A new full-length CD "Alien Worlds" is released and finally S.P.O.C.K enters the Swedish Top 40 sales charts.

– Big European tour consisting of almost 40 gigs! Lots of fun and Romulan Ale. Goes to planet Eminar 7 for huge show that is broadcast to 3 nearby galaxies (Earth isn't interested)!

– Yet another single from "Alien Worlds", this time the very serious song "All E.T:s Aren't Nice".

– Releases a double CD compilation album "A Piece of Action".

– When the second full length CD "Alien Worlds" is released S.P.O.C.K performs on MTV and twice on national Swedish TV. The album reaches chart position #21 in Sweden and stays on Top 40 for four weeks. "Alien Worlds" is followed by a big European tour consisting of almost 40 dates!

– After the release of "All E.T:s Aren't Nice", the second single from "Alien Worlds", S.P.O.C.K leaves Energy Rekords. Still, in time for the Christmas shopping Energy releases "A Piece Of The Action - The Singles & Some More", a double CD with all the singles, some obscure mixes and a few previously unreleased tracks.

1996 -----------
– Starts off with a show in Lund, live and direct on Swedish national radio, including space news and traffic information. Sweden is puzzled.

– Travels space, seeking out new life forms and a record deal. Finds the truth out there - "WE can do it much better" - and form their own record label, SubSpace Communications.

– Collects adventures and inspiration for new songs. When cargo bay is full, returns to Earth and Berno Studios to record a new CD. Sees nothing but a mixing desk and a dog called Ceasar for two months...

– Tries a few of the new songs at a Star Trek party in Finland.

1997 -----------
– First sign of life at the end of January: the single "Alien Attack"! Enters the Swedish sales charts as #33 and stays there for a while. Makes numerous appearances on national TV (one with Julio Iglesias!!!), local TV, radio shows (local and national) and a two week long promotion tour in Sweden and Germany.

– Finally, on March 3, the long awaited 3:rd full-length album "Assignment: Earth" is released! Enters the Swedish chart at position #27. Not bad! More radio and TV - and on the national Swedish TV Depeche Mode states "It's a hit!" when hearing S.P.O.C.K!!

– 2 weeks later S.P.O.C.K boosts their engines and heads off for "Earth Orbit Tour '97". Lives in a big bus for almost a month, visiting more countries (Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy...), more venues and more people than ever before! Some shows are recorded for a forthcoming live CD, and Swedish national TV records one show, aired a week later.

– A second single "E.T. Phone Home" is released towards the end of April.

– Summertime and S.P.O.C.K appears at several festivals, which are all huge successes!! E.g. Hultsfred (once again) where the crowd is the biggest one for 12 years!! The band is stunned...

– 3rd appearance this year on Swedish national TV (not counting Android visiting a program for children!); performs and talks about space. For the 4:th time Swedish national radio records a S.P.O.C.K show, this time at the always-very-good Arvika festival, to be aired in October.
