Blackhouse
Holy War
CD D1004B $17.99

Blackhouse are an oddity in the Industrial scene, because their music features Christian themes and lyrics! The duo of Ivo Cutler & Sterling Cross come from the heart of Mormon country, Salt Lake City, and have baffled the scene since they began opposing the libertine power electronics of Whitehouse with their Bible-obsessed messages. Unlike bland Xtian pop, Blackhouse preach the good word over the wicked sounds of raw beats and harsh electronix. They see no contradiction in their art, because as they say: "There is no war more holy than the fight for peace."
After their early Whitehouse-like power electronics releases they took up their fight with Satan on a rhythm-machine-oriented album Holy War (originally released by the American RRRecords label in 1987). Now on CD for the first time Holy War is still a classic of lo-fi beat box attacks and righteous rap. The question remains: are these guys serious or do they have a devilish sense of humour? Produced with Brian Ladd at the Ladd-Frith studio.

Collapse
Section
CD D1019B $17.99

The UK's Leigh Hunt is the man behind the Collapse project. The former singer from Every New Dead Ghost is now on a different musical path. On Collapse his abstract industrial soundscapes are similar to Main, Lull or Zoviet France. From dark drones and subtle rhythms, to hard beats and distorted vocals Section's concept uses several musical moods to convey it's theme of an unsettled sense of body and memory.

Dissecting Table
'Dead Body & Me'
CD D1018B $17.99
now out of print - last few copies available

Dissecting Table is Tokyo's Ichiro Tsuji, who has been making his Test Dept/SPK-styled industrial music for several years. When his releases from his UPD Organization label caught the ears of the industrial underground he was commissioned for albums by labels such as Dark Vinyl and Release. The Daft Records release, 'Dead Body And Me', is a sonic autopsy of the physical body, written for a dance performance. Cacophonous drumming on metal percussion, distorted vocal howls and bleak electronic atmospheres evoke a similar concept to the apocalyptic body transformations in the Japanese cyber-punk film Tetsuo II: Bodyhammer. It's as if Tsuji had a microphone recording the sounds of the interaction of dying cells!

Dive
Grinding Walls
CD D1008B Sold Out

Dirk Ivens produces an instrumental soundtrack for a film by Koma (done in collaboration with Italian industrial group Sigillum S). This is the other side of the usually-dance-oriented Dive, a dark, cryptical trip through the human skull in the style of Coil or Die Form. The twelve tracks use hard industrial drums, dramatic themes, weird synth sounds and brooding ambience. Their intensity will take you by surprise.

Esplendor Geometrico
Nador
CD D1006B $17.99

Esplendor Geometrico's vision of a hard rhythmic industrial music has proven to be years ahead of their time. The tracks on this disc were made from 1988 and 1989 and were a milestone in their recorded history. Machine-pumping bass, over-driven frequency loops and harsh samples appear rough and uncut.

Esplendor Geometrico
Treinta Kilometros De Radio
CDEP D1015B $9.99

The new Esplendor Geometrico sound is here, combining the power of their early days with a fuller 90's production. The title track is Industrial Techno for the end of the millennium, with a swinging syncopated beat that fans of tribal rhythms will enjoy. "Hombres-Cristal" also features a new rhythmic complexity, as pumping mechanical beats are layered into a shop-floor orchestra of machine-press percussionists. The finale "Confort" is also based on their prime inspiration of industrial production, although with more of a soundscaping orientation.
From their ground-breaking early recordings to the 90's progressions of their rhythmic Industrial sound, Spain's Esplendor Geometrico continue to be an essential group.

Hybryds
Soundtrack For The Aquarium
CD D1003B Sold Out

Hybryds are a Belgian group with roots in Performance Art, whose music ranges from ritualistic tribal rhythms to ambient soundscapes. This disc is their complete ambient soundtrack made for the 150th anniversary of the Antwerp Zoo (which was partially released in 1993 on a shared disc with Vidna Obmana). Hybryds recorded the environment of the Zoo's aquarium & dolphinarium and integrated them into an oceanic soundscape. The backing deep ambience and the natural frequencies (including those of the dolphins Ivo and Dolly) combine to take the listener into the astonishing atavistic world of the sea, the mother of all life. Soundtrack For The Aquarium is a splendid trip through the deepest parts of the sea and the human mind.

Hybryds
Dreamscapes From A Dark Side
CD D1016B Sold Out

This disc is their masterpiece of soundscaping fully titled: Dreamscapes From A Dark Side: Structured Sound For An Unstructured Mind: A Mythical Journey Of 74 Minutes Into The Depths Of Your Subconscious Mind. Prepared over several years, from 1990 to 1995, this represents the moody side of their sound. Ethnic samples of Maori tribesmen and movie dialogue (from Ken Russell's Devils) are blended with industrial-ambient soundtracks to build up a mind-expanding audiophonic experience. If you sit up at night and put on this CD you may be hearing your weirdest dreams.
Recommended for fans of Coil, Current 93 and Controlled Bleeding.

Hybryds
Cortex Stimulation
CD D1020B Out Of Print

Hybryds follow up their dance side first shown on The Ritual Of The Rave. This new 73 minute disc of rhythmic tracks goes through sections of harsh sounds ("The Beast"), Industrial-Techno ("Cortex Stimulation") and pure noise ("Fractal Collapse"). Hybryds always aim for the head as well as the feet, so throughout this album they sample spoken word statements from cyberpunk philosophers Timothy Leary and William Gibson. Cortex Stimulation also features guests Dirk Ivens and Deutsch Nepal (Staalplaat, Release).

Le Syndicat
Maximalist
CD D10010B $17.99

Le Syndicat is a long-running Industrial project from a French producer, Ruelgo The Dwarf, who dates from the cassette underground of the 1980's. A double CD collection of his early Throbbing Gristle-influenced material is available from Staalplaat. Maximalist is his 'dance' music project, with fantastic results that are comparable to the minimalist drum machine patterns of Lagowski and Riou. These rhythm tracks combine with the full-blown industrial atmospheres of wailing emergency sirens for knock-out tracks like "Geiger Alert" and "Pandora". These essential Industrial-Techno tracks are sequed by short interludes of computer voices and electronic tones that warn of the melt-down to come!

Master/Slave Relationship
Music For A Sadomasochistic Scene
CD D1007B $17.99

Master/Slave Relationship is the S/M-themed music/video/photography project of American musician Deborah Jaffe. Now based in San Francisco, she gained a cult status in the 80's Industrial cassette network with her droning loops and evocative spoken word. A previous album from RRRecords was even seized by Canadian customs, because she dared to talk about sex on it! But soon Jaffe's work will be as respected as that of Karen Finley, Annie Sprinkle and Lydia Lunch.
About this release, which includes an adult-only photo booklet, she states: "This music is purposefully sparse. I intended for this CD to be thought-of and played as background atmosphere during S/M play; it is music that merely lays the groundwork, lays the foundation. It is up to you to fill in the blanks: with the snap of a whip, the crackle of latex being slipped over a body, the sound of pain and ultimately, pleasure. S/M is still a difficult subject to approach. It seems, you either understand the concepts of control and consent, or you don't. It's not my job in this context to teach or educate. This CD is dedicated to those of you who do, indeed, understand."

Muslimgauze
Silknoose
CD D1005B Out Of Print

Bryn Jones has made many great underground albums as Muslimgauze throughout the 80's and 90's. This prolific English producer mainly records for Staalplaat and Soleilmoon, but he did this special one-off disc for his friends at Daft Records. Muslimgauze's many devoted North American fans will be glad to finally see this rare release!
Silknoose is an exceptional example of Muslimgauze's trademark hypnotic rhythms from Middle Eastern percussion. But this isn't a safe World music travelogue, as Muslimgauze's sampled vocals and electronic processing evoke the "Myth & Tyrants" of the war-torn region.

Martin Rev
Marvel
CD D10012B $17.99

Marvel is the remastered CD reissue of the first (and best) solo album from the legendary Suicide keyboardist. This rare vinyl release was pressed in 1979 by New Yorker Charles Ball's Lust/Unlust label (who brought you the early James Chance and Lydia Lunch singles). Martin Rev's basic sense of rhythm programming on early drum machines set the pace for the sounds to come from industrialists like Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle) and electro-poppers such as Depeche Mode. Marvel is an educational listen for the younger generation of electronic fans and will be an instant purchase for Suicide collectors looking the final reissued piece of their discography. The six original tracks, including the cult hit "Baby O Baby" are now joined by 2 unreleased tracks from 1991. "Martin Rev's driving soundscapes are the real thing".
