of the music of Schitz-I-fernetiC

FROM: L.B.

"Listening to your music, I noticed a tremendous Timbre and Power of it."

FROM: M.G.

"It has a very mysterious quality to it. The songs don't drag, so it makes it very interesting. I feel like some kind of voyeur when listening to it."

Off to a good start with its debut demo, 60 Seconds of Fame, is Toronto's Schitz-I-Fernetic. The demo has some raw edges, but the ideas are interesting and show a willingness to experiment with different sounds, styles, and samples. Of the bands listed as influencing S-I-F, the two that come through the strongest are Skinny Puppy in terms of the disconcerting atmospheres (ie. "Reality") and Bigod 20 in terms of the percussion and songwriting. However, songs like the gentle "Poison" evidence a Depeche Mode feel with its memorable synthpop orientation. In a day and age when most demos sound slick, there is something refreshing about the primitive, unrefined nature of 60 Seconds of Fame. Its focus is on exploration and experimentation in line with the ethos of classic Skinny Puppy, though lined with elements that are distinctly S-I-F.
