Na'amat conducts
a broad spectrum of services and provides 60% of Israel's child
care. It operates over 1500 facilities throughout Israel
including 60 community centres, women's clubs, mother/child
summer camps, a home for parentless or abused children, 890 day
care centres, 14 vocational high schools, and two boarding high
schools.
Na'amat provides apprenticeship programs and
university scholarships for adult women. Na'amat
provides free legal aid, management level training for women,
health education clinics and facilities for the treatment of
domestic violence. Na'amat runs programs for the
rehabilitation of women prisoners, an association for Single
Parent Families (Mehad), and ongoing information
seminars.
Na'amat is particularly involved in helping new
immigrants to settle, from providing refugee reception in
absorption centres, to home counselling afterward. Na'amat
makes a special effort to acculturate pre-schoolers in our day
care centres. At our community centres, immigrants can join extra
ulpan classes in Hebrew and can participate in special programs
in English, Spanish, Russian, and Yiddish.
In Canada, Na'amat takes a leading role in
advancing the role of women and their families. Na'amat
Canada subsidizes two summer camps and a day school. We
have made submissions to Ottawa on many issues that affect the
Canadian family, including a presentation outlining the
methodology of Na'amat's successful work in rehabilitating
violent dysfunctional families. Na'amat Canada
has taken the lead in the efforts to raise awareness of the
plight of women in Canada who have been refused the Jewish
divorce - the Get.
Na'amat's Status of Women Department is a leader
in acting on behalf of women's rights.
