Ella Martin was the Postmistress in Bookton, Norfolk County, Ontario between 1906 - 1908, having taken the position after the demise of her husband Peter N. McIntosh who had been Postmaster from 1864 - 1906. Both are buried Bookton Cemetery. (ref: On-line list of Postmasters - and information from Jim Evans and Sharon Crockett. 2. A real break-through came when Gary Middaugh responded to my posting on the Middaugh Genforum site. Gary informed me that the parents of Mary Middough/Middaugh were Joseph G. Middaugh and Susannah Johnson. This information may (hopefully) help clear up the mystery of the Johns(t)on's in the photographs. At least there appears to be a connection, and addresses the problem as to who had written on the outside of the envelope - "Illinois relatives of Mother's in Polo, Illinois - The Johnstons visited by Grandmother and Aunt Libby around 1880". (Probably Ella Martin - IF "Aunt Libby" is May Elizabeth Hagerman) SO... to date we have: Joseph G. Middaugh m Susannah Johnson ....Mary Middough/Middaugh m George Hagerman .......Lydia E. Hagerman m Freeman Martin ...........Ella Martin Still to resolve... The Johns(t)on pictures and the three elderly ladies. Many thanks to: Jim Evans, Sharon Crockett, and Gary Middaugh for their assistance. |
