Many things to see, many things to do…
Merrickville
The Village of Merrickville, founded in 1793, is
lined with heritage properties nestled along the picturesque
Rideau Canal. The village is home to a growing artists’ guild of
resident professionals whose wares are displayed in numerous
boutiques, shops and galleries. The community was chosen as
Ontario’s most beautiful village in 1996, and as Canada’s most
beautiful village in 1998.
In July, Merrickville celebrates life by the Rideau with
Canalfest. In August, visitors can find restored treasures at the
Annual Indoor/Outdoor Antiques & Collectibles Show and
Sale. The Annual Merrickville Artists’ Studio Tour takes place
in late September and early October and features the works of
talented local artists and artisans.
Cycling enthusiasts will enjoy miles of scenic riding in and
around Merrickville on quiet country roads. Nature lovers and
bird watchers can explore the Rideau Bird Sanctuary by canoe,
home to Bluejays and Great Blue Herons. Canoe and kayak
rentals, lessons and tours are available for paddling enthusiasts
of all skill levels at the Rideau Outdoor Centre.
