A memorial fundraiser
BY BARBARA LAVOIE
Once again it`s time to enjoy lip smacking German food
and drink at the 4th annual Oktoberfest BBQ served up by the staff at
Kirkland`s Royal Bank branch Place Grilli
(next Thursday) October 17 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the parking lot
outside the bank.
Each year members of the staff community service
committee choose a charity to donate the money raised.
Fully organized with the volunteer help of the bank`s
30 employees and the generous support of Alpina Salami Inc., Tim Hortons and
several grocery stores, this year`s event will raise money for The West Island
Palliative Care Centre.
"All the food is donated, so 100% of the money
raised will go to the Centre," said Jennifer Rank, personal finances
services representative.
Just over a year ago staff at the branch were saddened
to lose their cherished colleague, Luci Demmi, who died of cancer at the age of
34. An employee for 12 years, Demmi had also been an active member of the
committee.
"Luci would be very proud. We are dedicating the
BBQ to her and anyone who has been touched by cancer," said Rank. "We
conducted a poll of the staff and found that each and every one of us had lost
either a family member or friend to cancer," stated Rank.
Everyone is invited to drop by for a sausage or drink
and join the bank in its efforts to raise money for The West Island Palliative Care Centre. MIX 96 radio station will
be on hand with its Hummer car serving up non-stop music throughout the day.
