FIXED INSTALLATION COMPOSITE SAMPLING SYSTEM
MARKLAND MODEL 105 & 2105

CLOCK SAMPLING · FLOW PROPORTIONAL · EXTERNAL CONTROL

FUNCTIONS

With the two external control terminals jumpered, dial sets time between samples. With jumper removed and an external normally open (N.O.) contact connected, momentary closures cause one sample to be extracted for every closure. This gives samples proportional to flow when connected to a Flow Meter Totalizer Integrator Switch. In addition, maintaining external contact closed turns the sampler clock ON, and clock continues to run and extract samples at time interval set on dial until maintained closure is broken. When connected to a 24-Hour Timer, delayed start-up or intermittent operation can be accomplished. If connected to a Float Switch, sampler can be turned on when liquid level rises, for example sampling storm water runoff. When connected to pH or other type meter, samples can be extracted only when a pollution parameter is out of limits. Remote start-up by radio or telephone signals is another possibility for this multipurpose Controller.
USES

This versatile controller is designed to be used by industry, sewage treatment plants, laboratories, and pollution control authorities, where power is available. The Model 105 (illustrated) is used when compressed air is available. Model 2105 is (see below) is shipped with an air compressor for use where there is power but no air at the sampling location.

THE MARKLAND SYSTEM

Filter/Regulator/Gauge are recommended on Model 105 to clean and reduce high pressure air to the 15 - 35 p.s.i.g. required. Air Compressor supplied with Model 2105 is sized to give correct pressure directly. Markland supplies to Remote Sampling head, tubing, and sample collecting bottle which are needed in addition to the Controller for a complete sampling system.

FLOW PROPORTIONAL

Momentary contact closures in Flow Meter extracted samples proportional to flow. Each closure gives one sample 'shot'.

REMOTE START-UP

Rising liquid level starts sampling at time interval set on dial.
24-HOUR TIMER

Enables delayed start-up or intermittent operation. Clock samples taken as long as N.O. contact is closed.
REMOTE START-UP

Remote signal closes N.O. contact & samples extracted at time interval set on dial as long as contact remains closed.

USES

Samplers is designed to be installed submerged below liquid level at remote locations in open channels, sewers, tanks, clarifiers, sumps, reservoirs, lakes, rivers, etc. Samples can be 'called in' from any location to a central control point, or taken simultaneously from two or more locations.

SIMPLE DESIGN

Lack of mechanical or electrical parts gives reliable, trouble-free sampling. Easy to disassemble. There are no pumps, scoops, or vacuum systems to maintain.

HOW IT WORKS

Compressed air introduced into top fitting forces sample out of bottom fitting into collecting bottle. Rubber Duckbill® acts like a check valve and prevents air from escaping back through inlet. When top fitting is vented to atmosphere, hydrostatic pressure within liquid bath forces a fresh sample up vertical inlet and through Duckbill® slit until body is filled above vent fitting but below top of Duckbill®. A trapped air pocket in dome keeps Sampler from filling completely. Sampler is now ready for a burst of compressed air to 'call in' another sample to the collecting station. Reverse leakage of sample back through Duckbill® is impossible.
THE MARKLAND SYSTEM

Plant compressed air supply is not necessary. We manufacture a wide range of Automatic Controls for 110 volt 60 Hz, 220 volts 50 Hz, and 12 V.D.C. for clock sampling, flow proportional, or portable applications. We can supply your complete sampling system including tubing & fittings, sample collecting bottles, small air compressors, regulators, etc. to monitor your process or effluent.

NON-CLOGGING DUCKBILL

Heart of the Markland System is our patented non-clogging rubber Duckbill® which acts like a 'living' check valve that closes around fibers or particulate matter without jamming. Large particles which could clog tubes can not get through Duckbill® lips which open a limited distance in the form of a thin slit acting somewhat like a living screen. Inside of Duckbill® is self cleaning. When air pressure is applied Duckbill® lips immediately close and squeezing-shut progresses downwards toward bottom inlet expelling ahead (in a sort of milking action) any contained solids which fall back into the stream due to gravity. The non-clogging capabilities of the Duckbill® are truly amazing, even in Raw Sewage, slurries, or Pulp/Paper wastes.
