AND SARAH SAMIS DESCENDANTS
1807 –
2007, 200 YEARS SINCE IMMIGRATION TO CANADA
Research indicates that all Samis’ in Canada, and many in USA, are Ebenezer &
Sarah’s descendants. All their descendants
and related families are invited to this 200th anniversary
reunion. Please pass this on to
anyone who may have a Samis ancestor and invite them to attend.
The 200th anniversary
reunion weekend will be a wonderful chance to make connections with your
ancestry and meet unknown cousins. The
program will consist of:
July 27 - Friday registration with a Meet and
Greet at the IOOF Community Hall in Cobourg.
July 28 -
Saturday will be a Family Day of
historical reenactments, family genealogy and historical displays, interactive
displays, games, commemorative plaque & tree planting, catered dinner and
evening bonfire at Glendalen Farm, where the house was built by Ebenezer and
Sarah’s son Israel for his brother Michael after the war of 1812-1814.
July 29 -
Sunday will be a worship service at Glendalen
Farm & a Picnic at Victoria Beach in Cobourg,
the site of our regular annual reunions. Some tours may be available.
For those travelling a longer distance
and who want to make a holiday out of the occasion there are many tourist
attractions, golf courses, historical architectural sights and drives, hotels,
inns, bed & breakfasts, campgrounds and beaches in the local area. Prince Edward County, which was settled by
United Empire Loyalist and is Ontario’s newest wine region, is less than an
hour from Cobourg.

A Registration form is attached. Registration covers:
Ø Welcome package with weekend schedule, location maps,
souvenir pin, family history booklet and list of attendees;
Ø Friday Meet and Greet with finger food and punch;
Ø Saturday Family Day entertainment and activities with catered
dinner and bonfire singalong; and,
Ø Sunday picnic at Victoria Park Beach is free. Bring your
own food for the potluck table. Victoria Park has a wide
sandy beach, a wading pool, children’s playground, washrooms, snack bar,
trailer park, lots of mature shade trees and is a block from main street in
downtown Cobourg.
Early Reunion registration and payment is encouraged so we can plan for events and
facilities for those attending.
Sign-In will be 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm at
the Meet and Greet at the IOOF Cobourg Memorial Temple, 412 Victoria St. (NE
corner of University & Victoria).
From Hwy 401 follow Highway 45
(Division St.) South to University Ave. (just past KFC), turn West/right onto
University St to Victoria St. It is a
red brick hall on the North/right side of University Ave. There will also be Sign-In Saturday morning at Glendalen Farm.
