PLASTIC SURGERY FOR THE NOSE
This operation is designed to improve the shape and size of the nose so that it is in harmony with the rest of the face. Frequently it is performed together with the correction of a receding chin. Sometimes it is done in conjunction with a face lift or blepharoplasty to help reverse the signs of age. On the other hand, one may be motivated by economic or career considerations, as with professional models, actors, flight attendants etc., where a more appealing appearance is beneficial. At times, patients may have deformities inside the nose that produce increasing difficulties with breathing and should be corrected while a rhinoplasty is performed. Fig. 1; Fig. 2,
The nose occupies the centre of the face - a very important aesthetic segment. It is not unusual that a small nasal refinement may bring out attractive facial features creating a striking impact. Fig. 3; Fig. 4
Extensive change in the size and shape of the nose, at times, may have a truly dramatic aesthetic significance. Fig. 5; Fig. 6
The shape of the nose must be designed carefully by the surgeon with the patient’s participation prior to surgery. This is done with the aid of medical photographs. The patient’s special requests and gender identity are carefully considered.
