MALAR IMPLANTS/SUBMALAR IMPLANTS

CHEEK AUGMENTATION

Very few individuals have facial contours which yield themselves to cheek augmentation. In such instances flat or sloping facial surfaces under the eyeballs can be accentuated by the insertion of medical grade implant materials, usually through an incision inside the mouth. Fig. 10.

Facial swelling is considerable following the surgery and can last for two weeks. The incidence of facial asymmetry necessitates, at times, a second minor operation.    This is extremely rare.

Injury to the face may displace the implant and occasional infection may necessitate its removal.

There are other rare risks involved which you should discuss with me during the office visit.
