9. CANADIAN INSTITUTE FOR HEALTH INFORMATION
http://www.cihi.ca
The web site of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI)
demonstrates competent integration of frames, graphics, text and statistical
data that other organizations can consider a benchmark. The home page opens on
one frame that is updated monthly, and another with links to Who We Are, What We
Do, New Initiatives, Facts and Figures, Education and an option for French.
CIHI is a not-for-profit organization formed from a variety of organizations
that had a strong emphasis on health data and records. The Facts and Figures
site is a wonderful example of blended graphics and data. It opens with a map of
Canada, and you can click on any province or the country for information on
health expenditures and human resources.
The newsletter is well-written and informative. An unusual feature is the
attempt to cross-reference articles to previous ones that are relevant.
Marketing of CIHI's revenue-generating services based on educational services
and mining of CIHI databases is tastefully low key.
