7. HEALNET
http://hiru.mcmaster.ca/nce/default.htm
HEALNet is part of a federal government initiative known as the Networks of
Centres of Excellence Program (NCE), which is intended to link research and
development in the academic, private and public sectors. The Health Evidence
Application and Linkage Network, or HEALNet, is divided into six themes:
- making evidence-based healthcare choices in the clinical
setting;
- the organization and performance of healthcare
organizations;
- equitable distribution of healthcare resources across
regions;
- maintaining healthy and productive workplaces;
- the role of social, economic and environmental aspects of
Canadian society on the health of the population. Hosted by the Health
Intelligence Research Unit of McMaster University, the site consists of links to
general and theme-specific contacts and newsgroups, as well as operational
information about the NCE project and HEALNet. There is also an inventory of "people,
projects and products" of HEALNet, and a Learning Opportunities Centre
which offers some training in the use of health information and information
technologies. Overall, the writing is formal, and the site has yet to realize
its full potential.
