Hospital Web is the brainchild of Dr. John Lester at the Massachusetts
General Hospital Department of Neurology. In early 1996, he set up a way to
provide simple online access to hospitals via the World Wide Web for patients,
medical researchers, physicians or anyone else. The site is a jumping off point
to link with other hospitals, and the results are as good. The main Hospital Web
site is straightforward, with U.S. hospitals listed by state, and global
hospitals listed by country. In addition to almost 800 U.S. hospitals, there are
almost 300 hospitals in 45 countries on the list (including 46 hospitals in
Canada). There are also links to medical schools, residency programs, and
medical companies or organizations.
